England’s Rugby World Cup winning hero Jonny Wilkinson may have hang up his boots and retired from competitive rugby but he remains as intense as ever even today. He sat down for an interview with an English media outlet recently where he spilled the beans on everything.

He said that he has had a few previous thoughts about retirement, adding that he thought about it really hard once in October 2012 when he retired from the England national team. He mentioned that it was a painful moment for him to announce the end of his England career and he contemplated hanging up his boots for good.

According to Wilkinson, he was agonising so hard that now when he looks back, he thinks that there should not have been any agony. He added that if there is agony, then the head is trying to tell something that the heard doesn’t want.

However, by the following February, he knew it was time to give it a go again. He wanted to have another season with Toulon, which would be starting in autumn 2013 and the moment the season kicked off, he knew it was going to be his last season as a professional.

Jonny Wilkinson said that he decided to retire when he realised that he was asking too many questions of himself, when he realised that his heart was dropping out of it and his head was taking over. More »
